the following:
Yesterday, Tuesday 13 October 2009, I took part at the Launch
of the Mental and Physical Health Charter in Brussels as
GAMIAN-Europe representative.
As you know , the charter was launched publicly at European and
national levels with a view to raise awareness as to the
interactions between mental and physical health and thus make the
case for action towards a more integrated and holistic approach to
care.
Among partners of the Mental and Physical Health Platforf were: Jown
Bowis (Chairman) , Dr Antonia Parvanova (Member of the European
Parliament, David Mcdaid (Moderator), Jurgen Scheftlein (European
Comission) and representatives of MH European organizations.
As the representative of GAMIAN-Europe I presented the Perspective
of Service Users (will be published in the next issue of the GE
Newsletter).
GAMIAN-Europe Regional
Seminar for Eastern Europe took place in
Bucharest on May 22-24, 2009.

"Access
to Health Care for People with Mental Disorders in Europe".
Annette Hexelschneider, Dipl.-Ing.
Head of Knowledge and Information Management Support Unit of the
European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, has sent us
this April Policy Brief written by Manfred Huber and Kristian
Wahlbeck on the research findings of the of the project HealthQUEST:
"Access to Health Care for People with Mental Disorders in Europe".
Abstract: Poverty and social exclusion continue to be serious
challenges across the European union and for health systems in
member states. People with mental disorders are at high risk of
poverty, stigmatisation and social exclusion. They are also more
likely to face physical health problems and to die prematurely.
There is evidence that they do not receive the general health care
that best responds to their needs. Improved access to general health
care is therefore essential to minimising disadvantage for people
with mental disorders. This policy Brief outlines hurdles of access
to health care for people with mental disorders and discusses
policy implications.
