Stigma project
GAMIAN-Europe has conducted in 2006
a European-wide survey to gain a picture of the stigma and
discrimination experienced by people because of their mental
illness.
Results were presented at the
GAMIAN-Europe Convention in 2007 and published in Journal of
Affective Disorders, Schizophrenia Research.
Detailed results available on demand (mail to
info@gamian.eu )
In 2010 GAMIAN-Europe board decided to
organise a follow up study:
An identical questionnaire was presented to all GAMIAN-Europe
members
The questionnaire (20 languages) was published on the GAMIAN-Europe
website on 15th July 2010 and was closed end of January 2011.
Up to 1.200 questionnaires were send in.
At the Thematic Conference on Combating
Stigma, organized by the European Commission the first results
(based on 500 responses) were presented.
The final results will be presented in the European Parliament in
April 2011.
This results will include the comparison
between 2006-2011 and will give the opportunity to detect trends...
There will be results country by country, and trends country by
country (detect positive or negative effects of local events
between 2006-2010, possibility of evaluation of local anti stigma
campaigns).
This study will be repeated every 4
years.
