Working together across Europe
GAMIAN-Europe has joined REMESOS (Resilient and Mentally Healthy Societies), a project funded by the EU4Health Programme. The project, coordinated by EuroHealthNet, connects organisations from across Europe. It focuses on strengthening community-based approaches to mental health and involving people with lived experience in developing practical solutions.
Promoting well-being through peer support
REMESOS explores ways to promote mental well-being and resilience in local settings. This will involve introducing the Guided Functional Peer Support (GFP) model in Greece, Slovakia, Portugal, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The GFP model by Finnish partner Kukunori engages people in creative, peer-led group activities that foster social connection, confidence, and inclusion while complementing existing mental health services.
Improving how mental health is measured
REMESOS also aims to enhance how mental health is monitored at the population level. The project will review existing tools and compare approaches to create a practical, shared framework. As a result, policymakers and researchers will have better ways to assess the impact of mental health initiatives. This improvement will, in turn, support more consistent evaluation and learning between countries.
Bringing in the patient perspective
As the European voice of people affected by mental health conditions, we will play an active role in ensuring that patient experiences are included at every stage, such as creating a Patient Advisory Board, participating in co-creation sessions, and supporting the clear communication of project findings. Moreover, this approach ensures that people with lived experience have a meaningful role in shaping the outcomes.
Supporting inclusive and evidence-based policies
Through REMESOS, GAMIAN-Europe continues to promote inclusive and prevention-oriented mental health policies. The project aligns with the European Commission’s Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health, which highlights the importance of early support, community involvement, and evidence-based planning. Furthermore, it contributes to a growing European effort to strengthen well-being through collaboration and practical action.
