Call for Experts by Experience: Help Shape Mental Health Research Across Europe

GAMIAN-Europe is inviting individuals with lived experience of mental health conditions to join a new pool of Experts by Experience (ExE) who are interested in contributing to upcoming EU-funded and Wellcome Trust-funded mental health research projects.

GAMIAN-Europe is building a pool of individuals with lived experience of mental health conditions to contribute to research activities. This includes joining Patient Advisory Boards (PABs) that provide ongoing insights to ensure research reflects the needs and priorities of those it aims to support. As a member of a PAB, you may be asked to provide structured input and review project materials, give feedback on study design, highlight important patient needs, and ensure that research outcomes reflect real-world priorities through focus groups, co-design workshops, or interviews and surveys.

Members of a PAB may be asked to:

  • Review and provide feedback on research materials

  • Help shape study design and identify key patient needs

  • Support the relevance, accessibility, and real-world impact of research outcomes

Why your voice matters

Mental health research is often conducted without sufficient involvement of those with lived experience. By contributing your experience and insights, you can help ensure that research reflects real needs, improves services, and leads to outcomes that truly matter to patients and communities.

This is a unique opportunity to:

  • Influence the direction and priorities of research
  • Ensure that lived experience is central to mental health innovation
  • Connect with other individuals and professionals working to improve mental health in Europe
