Cancer and Mental Health Hub
Introduction
A cancer diagnosis can profoundly impact not only physical health, but also mental wellbeing. Anxiety, depression, fear, and emotional distress are common yet often overlooked experiences among people living with cancer, as well as their families and carers. Despite growing recognition of the need for psychosocial support, access to integrated, localised mental health services remains limited and uneven across Europe.
To address this gap, GAMIAN-Europe, in collaboration with Cancer Patients Europe and European Cancer Leagues, has developed the Mental Health & Cancer Hub: a dedicated digital platform designed to support individuals navigating both cancer and mental health challenges. Launched during the European Week Against Cancer (25–31 May), this initiative offers practical, accessible resources tailored to the unique and complex needs of this community.
The Hub reflects GAMIAN-Europe’s ongoing commitment to bridging gaps between physical and mental healthcare. Developed in consultation with patient advocates and mental health professionals, the platform aims to be both comprehensive and adaptable, responding to the real-life needs of users across diverse healthcare systems. Additional countries and resources will be added on a rolling basis, ensuring that the Hub evolves as a living tool that reflects the changing landscape of psycho-oncological support in Europe.

About the Hub
The Mental Health & Cancer Hub is a centralised, user-friendly online space that connects users with mental health support services relevant to cancer care. It offers a growing collection of country-specific directories that list available psycho-oncological services, psychological support providers, peer support groups, and helplines. These directories are currently available for over 20 European countries and are continuously updated and expanded throughout the year.
In addition to national directories, the Hub includes:
Coping tools and self-help resources addressing common psychological challenges faced during cancer treatment and recovery;
Information for carers, helping families and support networks care for both the emotional and physical needs of their loved ones;
Guidance for professionals on how to identify and respond to the mental health needs of cancer patients in a compassionate and effective manner.
Mental health support should never be an afterthought in cancer care. The Mental Health & Cancer Hub recognises that the emotional and psychological dimensions of illness are just as important as the physical. By making support more visible, accessible, and tailored to national contexts, this initiative helps empower individuals, reduce suffering, and promote holistic care across the cancer journey.
Whether you are a patient, carer, or healthcare provider, the Hub is here to help you find the support when and where you need it.
