Members in Brussels: Sharing Insights on EU Advocacy

On Monday, GAMIAN-Europe welcomed our member Taiteen Sulattamo ry and representatives from the Sosped Foundation (Sosped-säätiö) to our offices in Brussels.

The visit formed part of an Erasmus+ project aimed at learning more about how the European Union operates and what advocacy at EU level involves in practice.

During the meeting, we discussed ways in which mental health organisations can engage with EU institutions and contribute to policy discussions. We also looked at how to ensure that the voices of people with lived experience are included in European decision-making.

In addition, we shared examples of GAMIAN-Europe’s advocacy work. This includes collaboration with Members of the European Parliament and European Commission officials, as well as contributions to consultations, events and joint initiatives that help shape EU mental health priorities.

The exchange provided a valuable opportunity to share insights and approaches to mental health advocacy at the European level. Continued collaboration and shared learning remain essential to ensuring that lived experience stays at the heart of mental health policy.

We thank Taiteen Sulattamo ry and the Sosped Foundation for their visit and look forward to future opportunities for cooperation.
