European Mental Health Week 2025: A Powerful Week of Advocacy, Action, and Visibility

From 13 to 19 May, GAMIAN-Europe proudly took part in European Mental Health Week 2025, contributing to several high-level events and launches that advanced our core mission: championing rights-based, data-informed mental health policy across Europe.

1. Mental Health Summit – 20 May
Held at the European Parliament, this two-day summit explored the evolving role of mental health and recovery in modern society. GAMIAN-Europe contributed insights from our Vibrant Mind initiative, highlighting the positive role of cultural participation in supporting mental health recovery, inclusion, and resilience. The event brought together policymakers, professionals, and cultural leaders to exchange perspectives on emerging challenges and community-based solutions.

2. Care for Mental Health, Invest in Social Rights – 20 May
This hybrid event, hosted by the European Parliament Intergroup on Mental Health and co-chaired by MEPs Maria Walsh, Alex Agius Saliba, Jana Toom, and Tilly Metz, focused on embedding mental health within broader EU social policy frameworks. GAMIAN-Europe President Péter Kéri joined a panel to emphasise the importance of sustainable investment, the integration of lived experience, and the shift toward a rights-based approach to mental health.

3. Making Mental Health Visible: Data as a Tool for Rights – 21 May
This online webinar, hosted by GAMIAN-Europe, explored how better data collection and use can improve policymaking and accountability in mental health. With contributions from mental health advocates, researchers, and EU stakeholders, the discussion centred on how data empowers action, highlighting gaps in current reporting and calling for more harmonised, transparent indicators across Europe.

4. Launch of the Mental Health Dashboard
Coinciding with the webinar, GAMIAN-Europe officially launched its Mental Health Dashboard—a powerful advocacy tool offering a clear picture of the mental health landscape in Europe. The dashboard maps:

  • The prevalence of mental health conditions

  • Levels of stigma and public attitudes

  • National policies, including investment, service availability, and workforce capacity

Designed to support both policymakers and civil society, the dashboard will be updated regularly to help make mental health needs more visible and guide informed, inclusive policy responses.
