Rethink Mental Illness is one of the supporting organisations for Carers Week.
Carers Week 2025, ran from June 9th to 15th, spotlighting the theme “Caring About Equality”. Rethink Mental Illness made sure unpaid carers received the spotlight they deserve. Often overlooked, carers play a vital role in supporting friends and family members living with mental illness, yet many face significant challenges.
Throughout the week, Rethink shared personal stories and experiences across their social media channels, amplifying the voices of carers nationwide. They also called for support for their Mental Health Unpaid Carers Charter, which outlines the crucial changes needed to improve carers’ lives, as defined by carers themselves.
Despite their essential role, carers still face harsh inequalities, now more than ever before. Over 2 million carers live in poverty. Many have to turn down career opportunities, social activities and even overlook their own physical or mental health needs because of their caring role.
As an organisation founded by carers, Rethink continue to support their vital work and see firsthand the reality that many face. Rethink believes that everyone deserves equal opportunities and the right to lead a fulfilling life. That’s why they continue to support and campaign for everyone severely affected by mental illness to have a better quality of life, including carers.
The charity remains committed to pushing for change, urging policymakers and communities to acknowledge and support unpaid carers—the nation’s invisible mental health service.
